An FIR has been registered against the Vice-Chancellor of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA) by the Gauhati Police after it received complaints against the Vice Chancellor of indecently exposing himself to his female neighbours.
As per reports, two complaints had been made against the Vice-Chancellor, the first by a group of 18 women and the second by Advocate Anjana Kumar Gogoi, a practising lawyer at the Gauhati High Court.
Following those two complaints, the Gauhati Police has registered an FIR against Dr Patil under Sections 294 (Obscene acts and songs), 354A (Sexual harassment and Punishment for sexual harassment) and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The matter pertains to a Facebook post which complains about Dr Patil allegedly repeatedly showing his genital to the women in his neighbourhood.
The complainant, Advocate Gogoi has stated that “the allegation itself is an embarrassing topic to talk about as it is directly related to the University.” He says that he is a former student of the university, from the founding batch. He has appealed for strict investigation into the matter which has directly harmed and deteriorated the reputation of the prestigious university.
It has further been stated that if such allegation is found to be fake or made with a hidden motive, then all such persons behind the act should also be booked and put behind bars.
