Vijay Mallya has been arrested again, in London, this time in connection with a money laundering case, after India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) as well as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed an affidavit with a local court. This is according to a flash news by Doordarshan.
Already on bail and the extradition case hearing on at a magistrate’s court, Mallya is likely to get bail again, after appearance later in the day, but the fact that the court issued an arrest warrant against the liquor baron, who has been living in London for the past several months, is a huge setback for him.
Reports say that the ED and CBI charges will be clubbed together.
The Indian investigation agencies had invoked India’s Prevention of Money Laundering Act in alleging that Mallya had diverted huge bank loans to tax havens. In India, the agencies had sounded confident that they have with them enough evidence regarding transfer of money to tax-safe islands.
