Women Lawyers Write to Home Minster Amit Shah to Aid ‘Financially Drained’ Lawyers

More than 2000 women lawyers across the Country petition to the Home Minister Amit Shah to aid financially drained Advocates due to Corona Pandemic and also to improve the infrastructural facilities of the virtual courts. 

In the said, representation the lady lawyers requested Hon’ble Home Minister to take steps to provide financial assistance to the Advocates under the Disaster Management Act, 2015 on reasonable terms and conditions and also to improve infrastructural facilities of the virtual courts. A copy of the said representation has also been sent to the Prime Minister’s office, Hon’ble Law Minister and Hon’ble Finance Minister. 

“Representation to seek formulation of a uniform policy to provide the practicing advocates loan up to Rs. 5,00,000/- (Rupees Five Lakh Only) payable in 36 equal monthly installments with moratorium period of one year, by exercising your learned office’s extraordinary power under the Disaster Management Act, as Advocates are not able to exercise their fundamental right to livelihood since the month of March 2020 and allow physical filing of cause/case along with online filing and formulate policy to provide infrastructural backup to all Bar Associations and make virtual hearing more user friendly to make access to legal system convenient in this phase of National Health Emergency, it said.

The letter petition said, virtual court amid the pandemic becomes the order of the day, but most of the lawyers do not have the requisite infrastructure and electronic gadgets such as laptops, scanners, good wi-fi for better bandwidth and even dedicated spaces in the associations to participate in virtual hearings.
