Yo Yo Honey Singh’s estranged wife moves Delhi court over domestic violence

Bollywood singer & actor ‘Honey Singh’ (Hirdesh Singh) lands in trouble as a domestic violence case against him and his family members has been filed by his wife Ms. Shalini Talwar under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005.

The matter was listed before Ms. Tania Singh, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at Tis Hazari Court, New Delhi. The Court issued notice, and sought response from Honey Singh and his family members.

In addition, the Court passed interim orders in favour of Ms. Talwar, restraining Honey Singh from disposing of his jointly owned properties, including the matrimonial shared household; as also, his wife’s stridhan and personal belongings.

Filed through Advocate Sandeep Kapur, Senior Partner, Karanjawala & Company, along with Advocates Apoorva Pandey and G.G Kashyap, Ms.Talwar alleges that she has been subjected to numerous incidents of physical, verbal, mental and emotional abuse at the hands of Singh and his family members.

At the outset, Honey Singh and Ms. Talwar got married in the year 2011 after almost ten years of courtship. The case of Ms. Talwar is that the music career of Honey Singh just started taking off during the time of their marriage, due to which he was cold and aggressive towards his wife since the beginning of their marriage. As he became more and more popular, he developed the habit of having excessive alcohol and drugs and, and developed illicit relationship with other women.

The family members of Honey Singh also became disrespectful towards Ms. Talwar and started abusing her both mentally as well as physically.  They even discouraged her from working.
Later in the year 2014, Honey Singh developed certain medical disorders due to excessive alcoholism and drug addiction. Ms. Talwar took endless care of him throughout that period. It was only during this time that Honey Singh disclosed the fact of his marriage to the world at large and introduced Ms. Talwar as his wife during the shooting of a reality show.

On March 20, 2021, Ms. Talwar was thrown out of the matrimonial house by Honey Singh and asked to return only if she could arrange Rs. 5 crores from her family for buying a new house for Honey Singh’s parents.

The application states: “The Respondents (Honey Singh and his family members) broke the Applicant as an individual, mentally and emotionally. The Applicant due to the continuous cruelty imposed on her, almost started identifying herself as a farm animal, shepherded from here to there while being treated cruelly.”

The matter is listed for further hearing on August 28, 2021.
