Supreme Court Collegium recommends appointment of Justice Sandeep Mehta as Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court

The appointment of Justice Sandeep Mehta of Rajasthan High Court as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court has been recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on Thursday.

The Justice recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium Justice Sandeep Mehta was appointed as a judge for the Rajasthan High Court on May 30, 2011 and is due to retire on January 10, 2025.

Earlier the Collegium had decided to appoint Justice K Vinod Chandran as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court. however it was recalled later through a separate resolution and Justice Chandran was appointment as Chief Justice of Patna High Court instead.

The Collegium decided to recommend the appointment of Justice Mehta, after finding him fit and suitable for the same.

As per the information, Justice Mehta was enrolled as an advocate on August 8, 1986, after which he was elevated to the bench. He practiced before trial courts, High Court as well as the Supreme Court.

Justice Mehta has served as the vice-chairman of the the Bar Council of Rajasthan from 2004 to 2005 and as the chairman in 2010.
