New Delhi: The Supreme Court today rejected a plea to reconsider its decision for setting up of a smog tower in Delhi to deal with the growing pollution level in the city.
The bench, comprising Justices Arun Mishra, B. R. Gavai and Krishna Murari, was hearing an application against the court’s decision.
Senior Advocate Gopal Sankarnarayanan, appearing for the applicant, submitted that smog towers will lead to money for Chinese companies and that it had no scientific basis.
The bench, however, dismissing the plea said that it was meritless.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the bench that the site survey for setting up of smog tower has been done, collection of soil samples is underway and geo-technical investigation is going on for the circle design to ensure structural stability.
Mehta further submitted that IIT Bombay and TATA projects have tied up with University of Minnesota as it is a patent protected innovation. University has agreed to share the technology and the licensee will share scope of deliverables and transfer of technology by August 20.
The bench directed Mehta to place his submissions on affidavit by tomorrow.
In another pollution matter relating to stubble burning in the National Capital Region, the bench has asked Panchayat departments of Punjab, Haryana and NCR states to file detailed response on steps being taken to prevent stubble burning.

The bench further said that it wanted the involvement of central Government on formulation of rules/law to prevent and confiscate vehicles running on kerosene to deal with the problem of pollution in the city.
