Senior Advocate Ashok Bhan has been awarded the National Law Day Award for his exemplary contribution to the field of Law and public services on April 17 by former CJI Justice Dr KG Balakrishnan.
The award was given to him at an impressive function held in the capital. The award was given for his outstanding contribution to the field of law, human rights and public services.
Ashok Bhan has been a practising Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court and has handled high-profile cases across the country.
He practiced law in the Jammu and Kashmir High Court and was one of its prominent advocates till 1988. After the Valley was hit by insurgency and
turmoil, Bhan migrated to New Delhi and started practicing in the Supreme Court.
Bhan is a proud Kashmiri and a patriot who has represented the country at UNGA and UNHRC and other international forums.
Not only this, Bhan has also been a door tenant at a prestigious law chambers in London. After migrating from Valley and practicing in New Delhi, he made sure not to compromise on work quality and ethics and worked hard to get what he deserved.
As expected, his focus and professional competence came to be recognised as early in the 1990s he successfully conducted the Bofors case as Special Counsel for CBI in various courts in Delhi and Supreme Court.
From 1990 to till date, Bhan has been continuously handling matters of great importance, high-profile cases, and other arbitration matters. He is known for his expertise in white collar criminal law, constitutional law & arbitration
Bhan, who worked as a special advocate for the CBI, has argued many sensitive matters in various High Courts against high profile corrupt politicians and businessmen.
Bhan is a public speaker, a crusader against terrorism, a human rights activist and expert in conflict resolution jurisprudence. He is a Track-2 diplomat and a peace activist.
Bhan is also Chairman of Kashmir (Policy & Strategy) Group and has represented corporate houses in many civil matters and many arbitrations.
The citation to Bhan congratulates him for successfully conducting the Bofors case as the special counsel for CBI in various courts including Apex Court.
