The Supreme Court on Friday has given six more weeks to government to decide on mercy plea of Balwant Singh Rajoana who was awarded death penalty in a case relating to assassination of then Punjab CM Beant Singh.
The Supreme Court on Monday gave two weeks to the Centre to decide on the mercy plea of Balwant Singh Rajoana, a former Punjab Police Constable convicted in former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh’s assassination case.
The Supreme Court says if an accused gets bail on the basis of not filing the charge sheet on time, then he can't be arrested after the charge sheet is filed.
Balwant Singh Rajoana was given a death sentence for the murder of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh who died in a bomb explosion in Chandigarh on August 31, 1995. In 2012, Rajoana filed a mercy petition before the President but it hasn’t been decided to date.
