Calcutta High Court dismisses a PIL seeking transfer of the investigation of the FIR alleging employment has been illegally provided to the family members of Member of Legislative Assembly of one of the political party in AIIMS, Kalyani to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Calcutta High Court division bench allowed a PIL in Court filed by an Advocate questioning the appointment of the respondent no. 4 as Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University. He has also prayed for a writ of mandamus to initiate a fresh process for appointment of the Vice-Chancellor.
Having examined the record, the Calcutta High Court found that by order dated 15.11.2019 passed in WP 8802(W) of 2019 the petitioner was granted liberty to make representation to the Principal Secretary, Agricultural Marketing Department, Government of West Bengal within a period of four weeks. .
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj found that not only were the allegations made in the petition vague but there was also no material enclosed to substantiate it.
While considering the PIL, Calcutta High Court held that the same issue was in previous academic year 2021-22, wherein, WPA (P) 240 of 2021 was filed questioning the notification issued by the respondent University to grant admission on the basis of marks in qualifying examination instead of entrance.
