The Delhi High Court has in a judgement dated August 31 directed the Government of India to place a report before the High Court pertaining to the manner and mode of creating a permanent mechanism to deal with inter-country adoptions under the Hindu Adoptions Maintenance Act (HAMA)
The Delhi High Court has issued notice to the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) in a petition filed by a couple, who are Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card holders and had registered with CARA for adoption of a child in 2018.
AN important PIL, which could have far-reaching implications on adoption rules, was placed before the Supreme Court in late August. It sought the removal of anomalies in the grounds for adoption and guardianship, to make them uniform for all citizens and also to make them gender and religion neutral.
