A petition filed in the Supreme Court has demanded both CBI and NIA to investigate the extra-judicial killing of three inmates by police in Chitrakoot prison of Uttar Pradesh.
The Supreme Court or a High Court can allow the CBI to carry out any probe. That has not happened in this case. The CBI did not approach any court of law.
The Petition states that despite having withdrawn the consent permitting the CBI to exercise their powers in Maharashtra, they could exercise their powers only after a constitutional court permitted.
According to the petitioner, CBI had filed criminal cases against him and his wife under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and they had been tried before the Court of Special CBI Judge, Siliguri, Darjeeling, West Bengal.
The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to consider the report submitted by a high-level probe panel headed by former Justice D.K. Jain and proceed further against erring police officials in the 1994 espionage case relating to ISRO scientist S Nambi Narayanan.
