A five-Judge Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court on Friday issued directions that are expected to speed up trials in cases of cheque bounce, under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instrument Act across India.
The Court has constituted a panel to speed up disposal of cheque bounce cases. It said the centre would allocate space for its functioning and give allowances. The panel has to submit its report within three months.
While hearing the case Chief Justice of India said other members of the Committee will be officer from the Dept of financial services not under the rank of additional secretary.
