The Delhi High Court on Monday issued notice on a public interest litigation for the release of undertrial prisoners who have undergone custody for more than half their maximum sentence for crimes they are being tried for, by implementing Section 436A of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
A divisional bench comprising the Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan while hearing the Public Interest Litigation through video conferencing noted that the petitioner have not approached the authorities with regards to the issue.
Delhi HC has directed the North Delhi Municipal Corporation to file utilization certificate for Rs 8 crores to be released for the payment of stipend/emoluments to resident doctors from March 2020, in a plea filed regarding the issue of payment of salary to the Resident Doctors in Delhi.
