Uttarakhand High Court heard a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) is filed on the ground that the public road in Village Nasirpur Kalan, Tehsil and District Haridwar, is generally submerged under water.
“Merely appointing an Enquiry Officer does not mean that the representation has been allowed, or that appropriate steps have been taken by the State against the erring officers”, observed the Division Bench of Uttarakhand High Court.
The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority on Wednesday informed the High Court that the state government has granted Rs 20 crore to the Irrigation Department to take care of the difficulties created by the landslides in Baliyanala area.
Uttarakhand High Court division bench heard a PIL which raised a issue that the State has failed to enact any policy or rules with regard to premature release of convicting prisoners, after they have completed 14 years of sentence.
The court did not stop at that. It said: "In a quasi-federal country like ours, it is the constitutional duty of the Central Government to rush to the rescue of the State Government."
A bench of Chief Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice Alok Verma was hearing a batch of PILs filed against the State and the district authorities regarding shortcomings in the Maha Kumbh preparations.
