The Supreme Court has refused to entertain a plea seeking directions for compensation of Rs two crore for families of those who died during Covid-19 due to non-availability of oxygen and fastening criminal liability on officials.
The Supreme Court on Thursday issued notice to the Special Land Acquisition Officer Malaprabha Project Dharwad 3 and the Executive Engineer M.L.B.C.C., Karnataka, over a plea seeking enhancement of compensation provided to the petitioner in lieu of his land acquired by the state for submersion in the river Malaprabha reservoir project.
A Delhi Court has directed the New Delhi-Delhi State Legal Services Authority (NDDLSA) to grant Rs 2.5 lakh interim compensation to family of a nine-year-old Dalit girl, who was allegedly raped and killed, after which her body was forcefully burnt by a priest and three others.
A divisional bench of Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice MR Shah will hear the petition, whereas, on the last hearing the bench had given time to the Central government to file a reply over the matter.
Justice Asha Menon asked the petitioner to take appropriate action against the decision taken by the nodal authority. The counsel for the petitioner submitted that even after one year of the passing away of the wife, no action has been taken by the concerned authorities in releasing the said amount.
The plea further sought directions to the States to issue death certificates/ any letter to the families of deceased, stating therein the cause of death. The medical officers have not been conducting post mortem of the persons, who are dying due to COVID-19.
The Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi State Legal Service Authority (DSLSA) to process the application for compensation of a widow whose husband died in Judicial custody within two weeks.
