The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition filed by an NRI, whose stay in India was involuntary extended on account of Covid-induced lockdown and suspension of international air travel, challenging the notification issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), alleging that it had placed him in the pernicious position of losing his 'non-resident status' for the purpose of Indian Income Tax Act, 1961.

The Delhi High Court on Monday deferred its hearing till September 30, on a petition challenging the notification issued by the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University located in the national capital, pertaining to the retrospective fee hike, amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

A hybrid mode of hearing has been initiated in the Supreme Court from September 1, 2021, with Mondays and Fridays being completely virtual. Whether this will be a success or not remains to be seen. However, the first indications are not encouraging.
