The Delhi High Court on Wednesday deferred to September 20, hearing on plea for safeguarding the interest of the children who have lost their parents to Covid-19, and who do not have anyone else to take care of them and face the risk of being trafficked.
Even as the pandemic left behind thousands of orphans, the centre has put into place a system which makes it easier to adopt them. This includes a tracking portal, making the process relatively straightforward.
The Court during its hearing on 07/06/2021, has dealt with the issues which needs its immediate attention relating to the “Identification of the Children”, “Immediate Relief to Affected Children,” and “Education of the Child.”
As the day’s hearing started, the bench said: “We have received a note of a list of dates of action taken by the ministries and nothing else is there in the note.”
The court said: “We make it clear, that if we find that these provisions are not implemented, we will ourselves deal with the failure of GNCTD for implementation of the act (the Juvenile Justice Act), and consequences would follow for those don’t perform.”
The number at the moment is 9,436, but this is not final. To do this, the Amicus will have to get help from the nodal officers. Other states will be taken into the picture in the second stage.
