An e-FIR is a digital version of a First Information Report, a document used to report a cognizable offense to the police. It is a convenient and efficient way to pursue justice. e-FIR allows individuals to report a crime without having to physically visit the police station, but it also comes with some drawbacks
The Supreme Court has held that "as per Section 148 of IPC, whoever is guilty of rioting, being armed with a deadly weapon or with anything which used as a weapon of offence, is likely to cause death, can be punished under that Section", thereby refusing the accused’s submission that, the weapon used by the petitioner was a "hockey stick", which cannot be construed as a deadly weapon.
A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking direction to the Centre to form a Judicial Commission to examine all laws on corruption and crime and draft a comprehensive and stringent Indian Penal Code in order to secure rule of law, equality before law and equal protection of laws.
