The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a petition challenging the setting up of a three-member Commission by the Union government in October last year, to examine the possibility of granting the Schedule Caste status to Dalit Christians and Muslims.
Yet another panel has been appointed to consider granting SC status to these Dalits. Their right to practice another religion should not disqualify them from receiving the same equality as their neighbours
The recent move to set up a National Commission to study the socio-economic and educational status of Christian and Muslim Dalits is being seen by some as a move that will only prolong the issue of granting reservation to the poorest in the country
