A Delhi court on Friday has observed that fake encounters cannot be used to control crime while hearing the case of an alleged fake encounter where an accused was taken from his house and shot in his leg by Delhi Police officers. Appropriate authority/courts to decide upon the same and not to be dealt in such questionable manner by police officers.
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday adjourned its hearing till tomorrow on a petition challenging the appointment of Gujarat-cadre IPS Officer Rakesh Asthana as the Police Commissioner of Delhi.
The Delhi High Court was informed by lawyer Prashant Bhushan that a petition has been moved by him before the Apex Court challenging the appointment of IPS Officer Rakesh Asthana as the Police Commissioner of Delhi.
The National Commission for Women on Tuesday took cognisance of a woman, who set herself ablaze before the Supreme Court, alleging that she had lodged a rape case against MP Atul Rai, but the Uttar Pradesh Police, instead of helping her, issued a non-bailable warrant against her.
Under the NSA, officers can keep a person in preventive custody for months, if they feel the person is a threat to the security and law and order of the country.
The Court’s direction came on a Habeas corpus plea filed by son alleging his father was called at Narela Police Station on February 17, and since then he hasn’t returned to home.
