The petitioners challenged Rule 585 of the Delhi Prison Rules, 2018, mentioning that it violates the right to access justice guaranteed to undertrial prisoners and convicts by Article 21 of the Constitution.
The Delhi High Court will today take up a petition, which seeks directions from the Court to decongest Delhi Prisons in the wake of the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in the national capital and also prays for mandatory RT-PCR testing for prisoners and inmates of the jails.
The Delhi High Court on Monday sought response from the Delhi government over a Public Interest Litigation seeking extension of emergency parole of prisoners who are above the age of 65 and prone to Covid-19 infection due to some ailments and medical conditions.
