The special cell of Delhi Police arrested Deep Sidhu and sent him to seven-day custody on February 9 for his involvement on January 26 in Delhi violence.
The Delhi High Court on Thursday has reserved its order in a plea filed by Sharjeel Imam challenging the trial court’s order granting more time to police to file charge sheet against him under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
A single-judge Bench of Justice Suresh Kumar Kait heard the petition by Shahrukh Pathan who had brandished a gun at a police constable during the north east Delhi riots, challenging the order of trial court which had denied him bail on May 9.
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday has granted regular bail to M. Phill Student of Jamia Milia Islamia, Safoora Zargar who was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in a case related to Delhi Riots during the protests against CAA.
The Delhi High Court has observed that prison is primarily for punishing convicts, not to detain undertrials to send out a message to the public while granting bail to an accused in the violence that took place in North East Delhi in February this year
