The Meghalaya High Court directed the state government to implement the plans mentioned in the affidavit filed by the Secretary in the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Meghalaya, regarding facilities available for cancer patients in the state, especially at the Shillong Government Hospital.
The Meghalaya High Court division bench heard a Suo Motu Public Interest Litigation (PIL) concerning orders issued by the State Government making vaccination mandatory for shopkeepers, vendors, local taxi drivers etc. before they can resume their businesses.
After hearing the Counsels for both sides and looking into the facts and circumstances, the Bench said that it sees no reason to entertain the writ petition and not inclined even to issue a notice in this case.
The affidavit has been filed by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stating that the public health and hospital is the primary and exclusive responsibility of each state.
