The Supreme Court on Thursday expressed contentment over the Central government's decision to provide ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 as financial help to the family of persons who died due to Covid-19 amid the pandemic.
The Delhi High Court adjourned till October 4 hearing a plea seeking ex-gratia amount to the family members of a Delhi Police Constable who lost his life to Covid-19 on May 5, 2020, while serving as a frontline warrior in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has been directed to determine within six weeks the ex-gratia amount that can be paid to each Covid victim. The Supreme Court has said that NDMA has been failed to discharge its statutory duty.
A divisional bench of Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice MR Shah will hear the petition, whereas, on the last hearing the bench had given time to the Central government to file a reply over the matter.
