Two Supreme Court lawyers have moved the Apex Court, seeking CBI probe into the Lakhimpur Kheri incident that claimed eight lives and left several injured, as well as directions to the Ministry of Home Affairs to register an FIR into the case and take action against those responsible for the incident.
A letter petition has been filed in the Allahabad High Court, seeking CBI probe into the recent violence at Lakhimpur Kheri, in which eight people died and several were injured on October 3.
The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to examine the issue whether right to protest is an absolute right, in a plea filed by Kisan Mahapanchayat, seeking space for protesters at Jantar Mantar and listed the matter to be heard on October 21.
The Supreme Court on Friday asked Kisan Mahapanchayat, a body of farmers and agriculturists, to file an affidavit, stating that they are not part of the group protesting on borders that have blocked the highways.
