The petitioner further seeks for issuance of an appropriate order to direct the Department of Forest & Wildlife to create & adopt its own Forest Code/Manual for effective management of forest & wildlife.
Serious concern was expressed by TN Godavarman Thirumulpad, of supreme court regarding the safety and security of forest rangers. Under Article 48A part IV of the Constitution of India, it is the duty of the state to protect the forests and wildlife of India.
Hearing the matter of increasing deaths of forest rangers, the bench of Chief Justice S.A. Bobde, Justices A.S. Bopanna and V. Ramasubramanian expressed concern and CJI Bobde said each forest officer is entitled to more protection than others.
