The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on 21st September, 2021 has reiterated its earlier recommendation dated 16th September, 2021, regarding transfer of the following Judges of High Courts.
With the Supreme Court Collegium recommending the elevation of 8 judges as Chief Justices of various High Courts, here are short profiles of the 8 senior Judges.
Asserting its primacy in judges’ appointments in the superior judiciary, the Supreme Court collegium headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana has unanimously reiterated its previous recommendations to press the appointments of 12 persons, including three judicial officers, to five High Courts —Rajasthan, Allahabad, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, and Calcutta.
According to the List of Supreme Court and High Court Judges, published on September 1, 2021 by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, the Madras High Court is currently working at a strength of 56 judges, including 46 Permanent Judges and 10 Additional Judges.

The All India Lawyers’ Union (AILU) on Sunday, through a statement addressed to the Chief Justice of India (CJI), has expressed its reservation against the reported move for the elevation of advocates practising in the Supreme Court as judges of High Courts.
