Justice Shantanagoudar was elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court on February 17, 2017. He would have remained in office till May 5, 2023. He was the ninth senior most judge of the Supreme Court.
The order was passed in view of the recent covid surge and restricted functioning of the High Court as well as the Subordinate Courts in the West Bengal and UT of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The Division bench of the Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and Justice Arijit Banerjee also noticed “that the applicant was on bail throughout the trial. It is nobody’s case that the applicant jumped the bail or breached any condition of bail.”
The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Gujarat Public Service Commission and others in a plea challenging the order of the Gujarat High Court whereby the High Court granted relaxation of marks for women in an examination held for the appointment of forest officers.
The Division Bench of Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice M.R. Shah set aside the Gujarat High Court order, wherein the six persons were granted bail on the grounds of parity.
If the Collector and the District Magistrate extend the lockdown in Bilaspur District beyond the aforesaid period, then these arrangements regarding the functioning of the High Court will continue during the relevant period, said the Court.
