The Bench has upheld the punishment of Life Imprisonment with a fine of Rupees 1,000 under section 376(1) of Indian Penal Code but set aside the same punishment under section 3(2)(v) of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989.
The probe agency has booked Ahmed under Section 120B (Criminal Conspiracy) read with 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He is also booked under section 51 read with Section 58 of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
In connection with the FIR registered by the girl's father, eight persons were arrested for the offences punishable under Sections 302/364-A/376/216 read with section 120-B of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
The appellant was convicted by the First Additional Sessions Judge, Mahasamund, Chhattisgarh, under Section 376(1) of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, and was awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000, in default whereof to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 1 year.

The Supreme Court has upheld the conviction & life-term imprisonment of four in a murder case of a coolie while stating that findings of trial court leading to acquittal are perverse and erroneous, it is always open for appellate court to reverse such findings on reappreciation of evidence on record.
The counsel appearing for petitioners submitted that the parties has compromised the matter, and no purpose will be served by keeping the proceedings alive, therefore FIR and other proceedings may be quashed and set aside.
The bench also directed Umair that after the completion of one month, a certificate from Gurdwara Bangla Sahib be also filed to show compliance to the order.
