A Delhi court on Thursday granted bail to Jawaharlal Nehru University student Sharjeel Imam in a case pertaining to the violence that occurred on the December 13 and 14, 2019 in Jamia Millia Islamia. Imam was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). He was also among the several activists accused under UAPA registered by the Delhi Police in the Delhi Riots of 2020.
During the hearing on pleas seeking investigation into police brutalities on Jamia Students, the Additional Solicitor General Aman Lekhi, the police counsel, said that Delhi Police’s action was justified and at par with the threat to life faced by the police.
The Delhi High Court has finally completed its hearing on Jamia Milia Islamia University Anti-CAA incident from the petitioners’ side today. The hearing started yesterday with Senior Advocate Mr. Colin Gonsalves’s arguments.
A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan, was hearing a batch of petitions concerning violence that broke out at Jamia University last year following the Anti-CAA protest.
