The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Manipur government to release activist Leichombam Erendro, who was detained under the National Security Act (NSA), allegedly over a Facebook post related to the death of state BJP chief S Tikendra Singh, who succumbed to Covid-19.
Justice Chandrachud in turn exclaimed that arguments happen in courtroom as well, in a charged atmosphere, but that does not explain the damage of public property or anything done in the public interest.
The plea urged the apex court to direct that no bank or financial institution will take action for auction in respect of any property of any citizen or person or party or anybody corporate for a period of six months.
Justice Chandrachud, who is also chairing the Supreme Court E-committee, has been instrumental in ensuring that courts across the country function virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic.
