The Supreme Court on Wednesday reprimanded the Maharashtra government for insisting on holding local body elections on the basis of information and data already available with it concerning the Other Backward Classes, rather than submitting the same with the Maharashtra State Backward Classes Commission.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission to conduct and declare the results of Local Bodies (ward and office) elections in nine districts by September 15.
The petitions said local body elections have been pending in the state for a long time. The government is avoiding them in the name of the coronavirus epidemic.
