The Centre on Friday moved the Supreme Court seeking a review of the judgment of May 5 by the Constitution Bench which struck down Maratha reservation as envisaged by the Maharashtra Reservation for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) Act.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday struck down as ultra vires, the Sections granting reservation in the Maharashtra Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Act 2018 (SEBC Act). (Jaishri Laxmanrao Patil Vs The Chief Minister & Ors).
The Supreme Court will on Wednesday pronounce its judgment in the petitions challenging the Maharashtra Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Act, 2018 (SEBC Act).
Singh cited two separate SEBC lists: for central service, one is prepared by the Centre and the other by state for state services. These lists have been existing since 1993.
Earlier, the constitution bench had refused to lift the stay order by the court on making appointments and emissions under the Maratha Quota. The three-judge bench had referred the appeals to a constitution bench.
