A two-judge Supreme Court bench while transferring investigation to CBI into FIRs registered against Mumbai former top cop Param Bir Singh over the allegations of misconduct and corruption said a thorough investigation is required to regain faith of people in the state police.
The Bombay High Court on Thursday termed as non-maintainable, the petition filed by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, seeking quashing of two preliminary enquiries (PEs) initiated against him by the Maharashtra government.
The bench expressed surprise that the former top cop of the city says he has lost faith in Mumbai Police, a force he was part of for 30 years. The bench commented that “people in glass houses should not throw stones.”
On the plea of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, the Bombay High Court asked why did not Parambir Singh file an FIR, how can the transfer petition be PIL, the court asked for the station diary.
The petition has been filed after allegations of corruption have been brought to light by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh against Deshmukh.
