Bombay High Court division bench heard a PIL filed concerning the establishment, upkeep and maintenance of crematoria, cemeteries and kabrastans in the State of Goa. The pleadings reveal a shortage extending to about 43 crematoria, 50 cemeteries and about 172 kabrastans in the State of Goa.
The petitioners have approached the Supreme Court saying the Government of India has discriminated against Hindus by the establishment of the National Commission for Minorities. Any benefits being given on the sole basis of a citizen's religion is against constitutional principles, they contend.
The Delhi High Court on Monday directed the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) to file a status report explaining why many posts are lying vacant since October 2020.
