Plea seeking 50 percent reservation for female cadets in the National Defence Academy (NDA) rejected by the Supreme Court on the grounds that matter is under consideration in other bunch of petitions
The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to accept the Centre's request to allow eligible female candidates to appear for the National Defence Academy and the Naval Academy Examination from next year, stating "After we have given hope, we don't want to deny it".
As per the affidavit, the Government of India hereby places on record its clear and categorical stand that women candidates shall be considered for entry in the three defence services, in the existing streams, through National Defence Academy (NDA)
Supreme Court bench passed the interim order while hearing the plea filed by Kush Kalra that women be allowed to sit for the examination for National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination to be conducted by Union Public Service Commission on 5th September.
The petition is filed by an advocate, who said women being not allowed admission to the National Defence Academy (NDA) is a violation of the fundamental right of equality and the right to practice a profession.
This opportunity to take the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination at the age of 15-18 years is not available to eligible female candidates and the sole reason for this categorical exclusion is on the basis of their sex
