In a significant move towards revamping the higher education system in India, the University Grants Commission unveiled draft regulations to facilitate the entry of foreign higher educational institutions in India. However, the draft is not without some contradictions.
The UGC guidelines are meant to transform colleges into multidisciplinary universities or degree-awarding autonomous institutions by 2035. This is vital if India is to become a knowledge society
The petition stated that one of the main features of one-year LL.M program is the establishment of a Centre for Post Graduate Legal Studies by the university/college mandated by the UGC which will have a dedicated team of senior teachers competent to guide post-graduate scholars including Ph.D.
