The Ministry of Information and Technology directed by the Delhi High Court to formulate guidelines for regulation of content on social media and OTT platforms, in view of the use of vulgar language on such platforms and their accessibility to children and adolescents of impressionable age
The Central government on Wednesday defended the legality of the new Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, in its counter affidavit filed in reply to a challenge to the constitutional validity of the new IT Rules.
The Central Government has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court regarding OTT platforms. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) said that according to the new rules, the content of OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime is being monitored.
Further it has been submitted that “the OTT platforms have became a hub of Hinduphobic shows by disrespecting Hindus, its customs, rituals and other things which form the majority of the nation”.
The Central government has issued an order to bring OTT platforms and content providers such as Netflix, PrimeVideo and Hotstar under purview of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
