The Gauhati High Court on April 27 closed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) alleging that the patients who got Covid -19 were not given treatment for their ailments while their cases were being processed for admission in various medical colleges and hospitals in Assam.
The Meghalaya High Court recently observed that public spirited individuals should be vigilant and they should be encouraged to raise queries for the administration to be kept on its toes, particularly when it comes to health-care and measures to alleviate the lot of the underprivileged in the State.
Public interest litigation is filed in a court of law to protect public interests like pollution, terrorism, road safety, construction hazards, etc. Any matter related to the society where the interest of the public is affected at a large scale can be addressed by filing Public interest litigation in a court of law.
Allahabad High Court division bench while hearing a PIL filed by Mohd Moin Quraishi has said that the court cannot direct the government to issue a notification declaring any monument as a monument of national importance.
