The Delhi High Court on Thursday listed a plea filed by Shivani Saxena, one of the accused in the AgustaWestland VVIP Chopper Scam, for disposal on December 7.
The bail application of Gautam Thapar, promoter of Avantha Group, was rejected by the Delhi High Court on Thursday, challenging his arrest in connection with the Yes Bank Loan fraud case.
Mehbooba Mufti had been served summons to appear before the Enforcement Directorate in a PMLA case. She challenged the ED summons in the Delhi High Court saying she doesn't know why she was being called. The Centre is likely to move the case to the Supreme Court to club similar cases.
Senior Advocate Trideep Pais said, "UAPA, POTA, PMLA are distrust of judiciary. These are enacted so that your (judiciary) hands are tied. This is a joke. No accused should be held in this FIR. This is a cooked-up FIR."
The Delhi High Court will continue on Friday its hearing on petition by former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti, challenging the constitutional validity of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.
The petition has been filed by employees of Standard Chartered Bank who left the said bank in 2020 and 2014 respectively alleging that the Special Court under PMLA cannot try offences triable by Courts designated under the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The plea filed by Mufti also challenged the vires of Section 50 of the PMLA, which empowers ED officers to summon any person to give evidence or produce records.
A three-judge bench of Justices NV Ramana, Surya Kant & Aniruddha Bose has disposed off the plea today while appreciating the efforts of the petitioner Kirti Ahuja who appeared and argued the matter in person through Video Conferencing.
