The Gauhati High Court directed the State Government to place the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report before the Public Accounts Committee to verify the contentions raised by the petitioner as regards embezzlement of large amounts of public money meant for public purposes.
Gauhati High Court heard a PIL seeking appropriate actions for the alleged embezzlement of funds involving crores of rupees relating to the Social Welfare Department based on certain report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) dated 05.12.2012 relating to the period from 2009-2010 upto 2017-2018.
A Calcutta High Court bench comprising observed that it is the duty of the Court to protect the Constitution and its values and the principles of democracy, which has been held to be a basic structure of the Constitution.
