While addressing the people at the inauguration of the Kollam bypass in January 2019, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, mentioned that the culture of wasting public money should end. However, the reality is different. A huge amount of public money is being utilised in paying income tax of cabinet ministers that accrue on their income.

The PIL also mentions that the economic ramifications of duplication of civil work and damage to roadways on account of re-digging and trenching is not considered which account for substantial loss of public money.

A petition has been filed in the Rajasthan High Court seeking to stop the payment of salaries, allowances and other benefits of those MLAs who have been staying at hotels for the last two weeks amid the political crisis in the state.
