A Supreme Court advocate, Alakh Alok Srivastava, has written to the Chief Justice of India, Justice N.V. Ramana, requesting him to take suo motu cognizance of the death of a 24-year-old rape victim, who had set herself ablaze outside the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court on Friday deferred the hearing of self-styled godman Asaram Bapu for interim bail to avail Ayurvedic medical treatment in Uttarakhand, till the reopening of the Court.
On June 7, the state of Rajasthan had filed its reply against the plea of Asaram. The bench of Justice Navin Sinha and Justice Ajay Rastogi had on June 8 adjourned the matter, saying that the reply was filed yesterday evening and they didn’t get the time to read it.
The applicant states that he and his daughter are very apprehensive now that they would be killed in the same manner if Bapu is granted bail for medical reasons.
Decision granting anticipatory bail to journalist Varun Hiremath in a Rape case lodged against him by a 22-year-old woman has been challenged before the Apex Court. The Delhi High Court Justice Mukta Gupta had granted bail to Journo Varun Hiremath earlier last month.
The Supreme Court on Friday denied anticipatory bail to a rape accused. The bench of Justice L. Nageswara Rao and Justice Aniruddha Bose denied anticipatory bail to the rape accused.
Justice Maheshwari observed: “The trial court neither speaks about concurrent nor consecutive. The petitioner has served five years under Section 363, seven years under Section 366 and ten years for 376 IPC.”
