The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Manipur government to release activist Leichombam Erendro, who was detained under the National Security Act (NSA), allegedly over a Facebook post related to the death of state BJP chief S Tikendra Singh, who succumbed to Covid-19.
A Bench of Justices Siddarth Mridul and Anup Jairam Bhambhani said, “We expect the Trial Court to proceed further expeditiously and list the matter for hearing at 3:30PM today.
The Delhi Police had filed chargesheet against them alleging that the Anti-CAA protests organized by them from December 2019 were part of a larger conspiracy behind the North East Delh riots which took place in the last week of February 2020 when the US President Donald Trump was on India visit.
The two have been held in a case related to a larger conspiracy in the Northeast Delhi riots in February last year. The Court deferred the hearing on Tuesday, after want of verification of their addresses.
