The Supreme Court today adjourned its hearing till September 3, in a plea against demolition of homes of over 10,000 slum dwellers living near the railway lines in the city of Surat, Gujarat alleging demolition without providing rehabilitation scheme is illegal, inhuman and violates Article 21
The Jabalpur bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court on Tuesday issued an interim order to stay the eviction of slum-dwellers. A single-judge bench of Justice Vijay Kumar Shukla passed this order while hearing the petition filed by Kalka Choudhary through Advocate Subodh Kathar.
The Centre today assured the Supreme Court that no jhuggi will be removed right now while the Railways is in consultation with the Delhi government and while the Ministry of Urban Development comes up with a solution.
