Supreme Court bench comprising Justices L Nageswara Rao and B R Gavai, heard the case related to the demolition drive in Jahangirpuri at 11 am today. “The Court said that they will take serious view on the fact that the court order was not followed and demolition continued yesterday.
The Supreme Court today ordered status quo by staying the demolition drive of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) in Northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri which had witnessed communal violence on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.
The bench while directing the respondents to maintain the status quo till the pronouncement of the order noted, “this Court is satisfied that immediate orders are necessary to protect the rights of the petitioner till the pronouncement of the reserved order.”
The Chhattisgarh High Court directed the state government that no further proceedings shall be pursued till the next date of hearing with regard to allotment of a government land to Congress in Dhamtari for building a party office at the district headquarters.
