Earlier, the Supreme Court collegium held a meeting on September 16, 2021, in which they had recommended the transfer of Justice Sanjib Banerjee from Madras High Court to Meghalaya High Court.
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of total 16 judges in four High Courts of the country, including the Bombay High Court, the Orissa High Court, the Punjab & Haryana High Court, and the Gujarat High Court.
In the Second Judges’case, it was observed that the president must act on the advice of the collegium in making judicial appointments. This shows the primacy of the judiciary over the executive in such matters.
The Supreme Court Collegium has approved the proposal for the appointment of two judicial officers and five advocates as Judges of the Patna High Court.
The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on 21st September, 2021 has reiterated its earlier recommendation dated 16th September, 2021, regarding transfer of the following Judges of High Courts.
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of the Chief Justices of five High Courts to other states. The Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India Justice N.V. Ramana has made the recommendations on September 16.
