A lawsuit filed by the notorious gangster against a web series over infringement of his personality rights highlights the need for a balance between creative expression and responsible storytelling.
Tandav, the Amazon Prime series, stars Saif Ali Khan and is said to be a political thriller, an Indian attempt at something like House of Cards. The controversy is situated on claims that some dialogues in the series mocks Hinduism. The makers have claimed that they have deleted the offensive remarks.
A criminal complaint has been filed against the Tandav web series team, its director, its producer, head, Amazon Original Content, writers and actors for allegedly mocking Hindu gods and Hindu religion with malafide and criminal intention to ridicule the faith and promote feelings of enmity.
It has been alleged that the web series has ridiculed Hindu deities. BJP MP Manoj Kotak said on Sunday that he has written to Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar requesting him to stop the web series Tandav of Amazon Prime Video.
