In a landmark judgment, the Allahabad High Court has ruled that Uttar Pradesh’s law banning cow slaughter does not forbid the transportation of beef. A petition was filed challenging an order wherein a motorcycle had been confiscated under the UP Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, 1955
The Allahabad High Court said cow is considered as mother in India. One cow provides food to 410-440 people in a lifetime, while beef feeds only 80 people. The old sick cow is also useful for agriculture. It is not right to allow its killing, as cow is the backbone of Indian agriculture.
On 9th June, in the cabinet meeting of Uttar Pradesh Government chaired by Chief Minister Mr Yogi Adityanath, the draft of Cow-Slaughter Prevention (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020 has been approved. The meeting was held at the Chief Minister’s office.
