The National Commission for Women on Tuesday took cognisance of a woman, who set herself ablaze before the Supreme Court, alleging that she had lodged a rape case against MP Atul Rai, but the Uttar Pradesh Police, instead of helping her, issued a non-bailable warrant against her.
"The Kanwar yatra is postponed this year, like last year, because of Covid-19 pandemic. If the local devotee want to go for local yatra and wish to do 'Abhishek,' it will be allowed," the Counsel of State of Uttar Pradesh submitted before the Supreme Court.
On Tuesday the UP government announced the Kanwar Yatra - could take place with a "minimum number of people" and that a negative RT-PCR test could be made compulsory if required. On the other hand, Uttarakhand has canceled the Kanwar Yatra this year citing the Corona pandemic.
The Allahabad High Court has directed the Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh to file a personal affidavit on July 8, in connection with misbehaving and framing of a victim by Police in a criminal case.
Meanwhile, the recovery rate in Uttar Pradesh has also improved to 97.6 percent as 16.56 lakh patients have recovered from the infection. Currently, the state has less than 20,000 active Covid-19 cases for the first time since its peak in April-end.
UP has always been seen as a “bimaru” state and its handling of corona too was criticised. But with the Allahabad High Court praising its efforts, a shift in perception is under way.
The petitioner said the state government did not follow the procedure laid down, while disengaging him from service under Section 13(5) of the UP Home Guards Act, 1963.
